We understand that new businesses play a key role within our local economy. That is why we aim to assist businesses through the entire start-up process. Currently, there are many forms of support for new start-up businesses and the self-employed within Neath Port Talbot. This ranges from funding, to events, and connecting start-up businesses with business experts for further support. Additionally, we aim to provide help and support to those affected by the Tata Steel Transition who are looking to start a new business or go self-employed.
Find Business Startup Help, Advice and Opportunities at Our Events
Neath Port Talbot Council has generated a partnership with local businesses and organisations in order to deliver key knowledge and cultivate conversation between budding start-up businesses within the community. Let’s Talk Business: Starting Your Business is a free event that runs on the last Thursday of every month in the Sandfields Business Centre. At these events you will find help generating business plans, learning how to access financial support, as well as social media and branding advice. If you are thinking of, or are in the process of establishing a new business, come along.
Additionally, our monthly Let’s Talk Business events offer the opportunity to meet a wide range of business experts and gain business support and advice for your start-up business. These events are held once a month in different communities across Neath Port Talbot. Our business experts who attend each month offer a wide range of specialist support. Find funding and start-up business grant support from our team as well as The Development Bank of Wales and Business Wales . Digital advice and support is offered by Aspire2Be, and PRIME Cymru can help with employment and self-employment queries. Come and meet all the expert business advisors in a friendly, informal setting. Let’s Talk Business events are an invaluable opportunity to gain insightful knowledge, help and advice for start-up businesses.

Startup Business Grants and Funding for Businesses in Neath Port Talbot
Neath Port Talbot council are invested in the development of local businesses to ensure long term sustainability. But what funding is currently available?
- Shared Prosperity Fund- Neath Port Talbot Council is invested in the development of local businesses to ensure long term sustainability. £2.8 million worth of funding is now available and open for applications.
- Green Renewable Fund- Neath Port Talbot Council is aiding businesses with funding to invest in new green technologies, due to increasing environmental concerns, to enhance business operations and credentials. Learn more about the Green Renewable Fund here.
Your Neath Port Talbot start-up could be eligible to benefit from our New Business Start-Ups grant. This is a grant of £500- £5,000 which will be match funded as follows:
- 100% of eligible costs up to £2,000,
- 50% of eligible costs between £2,000 and £5,000.
Start-ups with eligible costs over £8,000 can apply for a grant match funded at up to 50%.
