Working in partnership with Jones Bros Ltd, we are proud to highlight the social value outcomes achieved as part of the Heilbronn Way road improvement project in Port Talbot. With support from the Council’s Community Benefits Officer, the project has delivered a range of positive impacts that extend far beyond the construction works themselves.
Jobs and Skills
The project provided a valuable work experience opportunity for a student from Neath Port Talbot College, helping to develop practical skills and offer insight into careers within the construction and infrastructure sector.
Supporting Local Business
Demonstrating a commitment to the local economy, 50% of contracts awarded through the project were delivered by South Wales-based small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs), supporting local businesses and helping to retain investment within the region.
Inspiring the Next Generation
A STEM engagement activity was delivered at Central Primary School, inspiring 170 pupils through interactive learning experiences designed to encourage interest in science, technology, engineering and mathematics.
Caring for Our Community and Environment
In collaboration with Cycle Champs and Neath Port Talbot Council, the project also supported active travel and healthy lifestyles through the donation of 10 balance bikes to Baglan Primary School, helping young children build confidence and develop cycling skills from an early age.
The Heilbronn Way project demonstrates how investment in infrastructure can create lasting social value, delivering benefits that support education, employment, local businesses and community wellbeing while helping to build a stronger future for Neath Port Talbot.
