Fabian Way Drainage Works with Ian Davies Ltd.
At Neath Port Talbot Council, we are committed to ensuring that our procurement activities deliver lasting benefits for our communities.
Social value is about creating positive outcomes for people, communities and the environment. This includes supporting local businesses, creating employment opportunities, developing skills, improving wellbeing and promoting environmental sustainability.
We were proud to work in partnership with Ian Davies Ltd to deliver meaningful social value alongside the drainage improvement works on Fabian Way in Neath Port Talbot.
Funded through the Welsh Government’s Resilient Roads Fund (RRF), the project was designed to tackle ongoing flooding issues that regularly impact the eastbound carriageway, cycle path and lay-bys during periods of heavy rainfall.
While enhancing the resilience of this key transport route, the project also delivered a range of wider community benefits, demonstrating how infrastructure investment can create a positive and lasting impact beyond the construction works themselves.
Here’s What We Achieved Together
Jobs & Skills
Delivered 42 weeks of targeted recruitment and training support, creating valuable opportunities for local people, including two work experience placements and the recruitment of a new administrative support role.

Inspiring the Next Generation

Supporting Our Community and Environment
The project delivered a range of positive community benefits:

– Wood materials were donated to B-Spoked, a community initiative based in Skewen, helping to support its ongoing projects and local impact.
– A donation of £500 was provided to Ysgol Gynradd Creunant Primary School to contribute towards sports kit for pupils.
