San Portablo — Port Talbot’s cult Welsh streetwear brand founded by local entrepreneur Nigel Hunt — continues to grow its global following from its base in the Aberafan Shopping Centre.
The brand, established in 2016 after Nigel Hunt was made redundant from the steelworks, has become known for celebrating Welsh culture, local pride and Port Talbot identity.
“San Portablo continues to be an innovative example of how local creativity, community pride and targeted support can drive success in Neath Port Talbot.”

To support its ongoing growth, San Portablo recently received specialist business support through the UK Shared Prosperity Fund (SPF).
The help provided has strengthened the company’s operations, improved business resilience and supported future expansion.
As part of this support, the business also received funding for new signage to enhance its pop-up stand and pitch at the ‘In It Together Festival’ in Port Talbot, helping to raise its profile and engage with wider audiences at one of the area’s flagship events.
Owner of San Portablo, Nigel Hunt said:
“The SPF support helped us take the next step as a business. It strengthened our plans, gave us confidence to grow, and helped us build resilience during a challenging time for Port Talbot.”
